The Milestone
The Milestone has been part of Charlotte's music scene since 1969. The Milestone has been serving local and regional musicians since its inception. It is home to a small stage and a big bar.
The Milestone has played host to some of the nations best indepenent rock music. As a venue, the Milestone's management recognizes the importance of acts which are less high profile. Early in the ninties and late eighties, the Milestone featured indie senseation REM as well as Grunge innovators Nirvana before their careers offered the opportunity for Arena gigs. The Milestone has played host to many important bands throughout the years, and one of the most exciting was Superchunk, who earned the Best Show award from Creative Loafing in 1992 for their performance at the Milestone. Superchunk would go on to create Merge Records, a Chapel Hill based record label nationally recognized for their indie releases.
In addition to supporting regional acts, The Milestone also promotes a strong local scene, commonly featuring local bands as their headlining acts with small festivals. The grungy atmosphere is reminicent of the 90s when the idie rock scene was blooming.
