JazzCharlotte was one of the greatest exhibitions of Charlotte's musical importance. This festival ran for nine years drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the country. Nationally recognized acts such as Miles Davis, Cout Basie, and Bill Evans all performed to enlighten and entertain jazz fans of all ages. These national acts shared the stage with some of Charlotte's best musicians.

As a credit to Charlotte's Musical History, Jazz Charlotte built on the legacy of Charlotte's early musical tradition. Charlotte has been host to major music festivals since 1890. Jazz Charlotte, taking from this tradition, offered the vehicle for patrons to experience the best that modern jazz had to offer.

The festival ran anually from 1985 to 1994 and was a stunning success, drawing over 100,000 jazz fans in 1993. Jazz Charlotte paved the way for Charlotte's contemporary music scene by garnering national attention to the heart of the city.
