Description

Potograph of Presbyterian College for Women which was located on College Street at Phifer Avenue between Ninth and Tenth Streets. This site was originally occupied by Charlotte Female Institute which was erected in 1857. This school was closed in 1891. In 1896 the Presbytery of Concord and Mecklenburg established the Presbyterian College for Women by acquiring and expanding this building. The auditorium had a capacity of 1,000 and was used for many music concerts. In 1912 the college changed names and moved out to Myers Park to become Queens College. In the 1930's the old auditorium of Presbyterian College was used by the Little Theatre.
