View of Ovens Auditorium and Charlotte Coliseum on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte N.C. These auditoriums were opened in 1955 and gave Charlotte much needed state-of-the-art spaces for large public entertainment events, including sports, musical performances of all kinds and other public gatherings such as the circus and ice skating events. Ovens was built with a capacity of 2,500 seats and the Coliseum with 12,500.
